About Shake N Howdy

To be completely transparent, I’m not a huge music person. I listen, here and there, from time to time, but for the most part it isn’t a major part of my life.

My parents do love Bluegrass music. My dad’s father was a music man, part of the Elmer Bird and the Thornton Brothers band. Now my mother and father, in their retired phase of life, travel to Bluegrass festivals and have satellite radio just to listen to Bluegrass nonstop.

Even though music isn’t a passion of mine – my brother visited once and when I returned from work I learned he spent the whole day listening to music on YouTube through my smart television; something I would never consider doing – I do love the sound of a piano, the twang of a banjo, and harmony. Two out of those three loves land in the realm of Bluegrass.

I made this website after a conversation with my mother, who said most performers at festivals will end their set with some thank yous and letting everyone know where they will be if anyone wants to come Shake and Howdy.

Initially I wanted to have a simple event listing site, using the flyers my folks grabbed to plan their next Bluegrass festival. But as my interest develops, I want to include my thoughts as a way to record my growth and understanding of this wonderful music genre.
